Whole 30 Debrief: Tips & Tools

Hey Party-Makers,

Checking in from the other side of Whole 30! Honestly, I cannot believe this month is already over. It’s been really fun to spend the month taking care of our bodies, and creating beautiful and delicious food for you.

When we started Whole 30 this round, we were completely in it to restart our bodies. I can’t say we were committed at that time to making any lifestyle changes, but as the month progressed we found ourselves falling in love with whole foods. We experienced a lot of creativity, simplicity, and discipline in sticking to a specific eating regimen for the month. As I’ve been debriefing the experience, I’m honestly a little bit sad that it’s over. There’s something about a plan that is really comforting to me, and realizing that the ball is in my court now feels like a lot of responsibility.

Whole 30 Prep Week: What To Buy, Do, And Prep

Hey Party-Makers,

After online-committing to doing Whole30 last week, I’m spending some time early this week preparing for the next 30 days of clean eating. If you’re late to the Party, Ben and I will be starting Whole30 on Thursday of this week. Whole30 is a food detox program where you abstain from eating certain foods for a month in order to regain a balanced diet, discover any food aversions you might have, and break bad food habits you may have developed over time.

5 Ways To Reset For Spring (Even If It Doesn’t Feel Like Spring Yet)

Hey Party-Makers,

Happy First Day of Spring! Around here, we’ve been counting down to this day for a long, long, long time. And even still, the winter weather in Portland continues.

While I know there are some areas of the country that have more severe weather than Portland, I’m firmly convinced they still get more sunshine than we do. And y’all, until you live somewhere where you only see the sun every two weeks (if you’re lucky), you have no idea how much it affects you.

San Diego: Our 2017 Retreat.

Hey Party-Makers,

Do you ever get that feeling like you are simultaneously living in slow motion and a high speed chase? I guess that’s what January has felt like for us. Periods of stop and go, of resetting our brains, of introspection and running straight into the arms of the people we love and support. I’m sure a lot of you have some of the same experiences, or at the very least can relate to the whirlwind of January.

Your Thanksgiving Timeline to Sanity

Hey Party-Makers,

Happy November! We’ve had two. whole. days of no rain in Portland. The sun is shining, the leaves are every shade of beautiful. Estel, our dog, is laying belly up in the sunshine in our backyard right now. Even though we’ve been in Portland for two winters now, poor girl still hates the rain. I’m taking the sunshine in, too. Even skipped my Vitamin D this morning to make sure I spent at least 30 minutes remembering what it feels like to have the sun around. And maybe that’s all melodramatic, but if you lived here, you’d know what I was talking about. And if you do live here, then I’m sure you’ve been absorbing as much sun as possible as well.

An explanation & non-apology about our Fall Celebrations

Hey Party-Makers,

I feel like this post has been in the back of my head for a while now. When I first started making a schedule and calendar for topics to cover, I eyed October skeptically. Here’s the thing, party-makers—I love October. I love football (even though it breaks my heart nearly every season), I love bonfires, I love the colors of fall, I love decorating with mini pumpkins. I also love the foods of fall–the soups, stews, hearty pasta dishes, apple desserts, tailgate foods, and all.the.pies.

Plan a Better Vacation Using your Smart Phone

Hey Party-Makers,

if you’ve been reading regularly, you might be wondering if this blog is still a partnership between me and Ben. And to answer your question, it TOTALLY is. There’s just one of us that has a little bit more time than the other to sit down and write regularly (that’s me, Mary). However, behind the scenes of Heart of Celebration Ben is typically the one who helps come up with ideas, does a LOT of the heavy lifting in our parties and events, and makes sure our website and technology is running smoothly.
